The Challenge
The original project was developed for Arbor Wood, which required a modern and highly automated thermo modification facility capable of producing high-quality thermally modified wood with consistent and documented process conditions.
The objective was to implement WTT’s 2.0 Thermo Modification process, combining high product durability with full production traceability, automated operation and a flexible plant concept.
Following the acquisition of the facility by Thermal Wood Technologies, the plant was subsequently relocated to New Freedom, Pennsylvania, in 2026, where it became part of TWT’s growing thermo modification production capacity.
The Solution
WTT designed, delivered, installed and commissioned an automated 2.0 Thermo Modification plant with a simple and efficient transport system, originally tailored to Arbor Wood’s production requirements.
The facility was designed in accordance with applicable directives and standards and incorporates a high degree of automation, providing full traceability of every production batch.
The plant operates using WTT’s 2.0 Thermo Modification process, producing thermally modified wood classified as Durability Class 1. WTT’s 2.0 process is approved according to NTR AB, providing a documented foundation for consistent and durable end products.
An advanced WTT SCADA system provides complete monitoring, process control and production reporting. The system also incorporates automated SMS alarms, allowing personnel to be notified when operator attention is required during unmanned operation in the evenings, at night and during weekends.
Following the acquisition by Thermal Wood Technologies, the complete plant was relocated to New Freedom, PA, in 2026, where it was integrated into TWT’s production setup.

The Result
The relocated facility in New Freedom provides Thermal Wood Technologies with an additional 10,000 m³ of annual thermo modification capacity.
Combined with TWT’s existing production capacity, the new site brings the company’s total annual capacity to approximately 40,000 m³.
The facility combines capacity, automation, full traceability and WTT’s 2.0 Thermo Modification technology, providing Thermal Wood Technologies with a scalable platform for the production of high-quality, Durability Class 1 thermally modified wood.
