AB Impregna
Conversion to Heavy Duty Royal Process
Customer: AB Impregna
Location: Ludvika, Sweden
Construction period: 2022–2023
The Challenge
AB Impregna aimed to replace traditional creosote treatment with a more sustainable alternative while continuing to utilize their existing plant infrastructure. The challenge was to upgrade two older facilities into a modern, automated solution without disrupting production or compromising performance.
The Solution
We delivered a complete conversion of two existing creosote impregnation plants to the Heavy Duty Royal process.
WTT was responsible for all engineering calculations, as well as the delivery of the control system and pump modules, while local contractors handled piping and electrical installation.
The upgraded system is designed according to current standards and directives and ensures full production traceability through a high level of automation.
The Heavy Duty Royal process is a two-step treatment:
NTR A impregnation
Drying in linseed oil
The plant is equipped with an advanced SCADA system for monitoring, control, and reporting, ensuring stable and efficient operation.

The Benefits
With this conversion, AB Impregna has achieved:
A successful transition from creosote to an environmentally friendly process
Continued use of existing infrastructure, reducing capital investment
Full traceability and control through advanced automation
A flexible project model combining WTT expertise with local execution
Reliable and efficient operation with SCADA monitoring
The Result
AB Impregna now operates a modernized and sustainable production setup, combining environmental responsibility, efficiency, and operational flexibility – a future-ready alternative to traditional creosote treatment.
